Word learning game

I created a Hungarian – Japanese picture dictionary together with a word-learning game, as my doctoral work.
The board game that forms an integral part of the dictionary is a special combination of the Japanese game Utagaruta and the European memory game. It teaches the words of the different topics separately, does not get boring even after several games, and offers the opportunity for improvement.

For this work I won a Special Prize on the Hungarian Design Award in 2014.
Jury statement:
The project establishes a link between different cultures and their languages. The designer’s aim was to create a playful verbal and visual representation of the Japanese and Hungarian languages. In her work characterized by in-depth research she combined the vocabulary items of the two languages with visually represented symbols and motifs that she had collected from the two cultures and which also contain references to the cultural background to these languages. The high professional standard of the project ensures that children will be able to master these languages easily and playfully. Moreover, it creates new opportunities in
the acquisition of languages by using the same method, which is especially important today, when cultures interact and mutually impact each other more than ever before, facilitating cooperation without frontiers.
